Sanur is on the east coast of Bali about 30 minutes drive from the infamous party spots of Kuta and Legian. But this place is far from being a party place. People come here to chill and relax. Location

Sanur is due east of Kuta and about 30-40 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport. It is a coastal town from which you can see the distant islands of Nusa Lembongan, Ceningan Island and Tojapakeh Island.

History

Sanur was one of the first locations in Bali to grab the attention of western travellers, becoming a stepping-stone or gateway to the rest of the island, as far back as early as the 1970s. It superceded the popularity of Bali greats like Seminyak, Ubud and Canggu.

The 8 km beach was a front for what was once a quiet fishing village. The beauty and tranquility was eyecatching. Expats and families fell in love with the fabulous laidback lifestyle. Affectionately known as “Morning of the World”, Sanur became renown for its iconic sunrises. It became "the place to be" to catch the break of dawn along the coastline, from Matahari Terbit Beach to Mertasari Beach.
