Nusa Dua is located on the southeastern coast of Bali about 20 minutes from the international airport.

History

Nusa Dua means "two islands" was built in the 1970s on the southeastern part of the island of Bali. It covers a large area of 350 hectares that is filled with approximately 20 hotel resorts over the peninsula.

Before development happened, Nusa Dua was a mostly rural coastal area of Bualu. partly covered with mangrove forest. The land was infertile and hard to farm. Inhabitants barely survived by selling coconuts and salt. But in the 1970s and 1980s, developers moved in with force and destroyed most of the mangroves. Their concept was to build a self-contained resort in its place. Locals were forcably evicted by brigades of baton-wielding police. The peaceful old Hindu temple in the backyard of the Hyatt Hotel, is the only reminder of Nusa Dua's burdened past. Today, lush tropical gardens have filled the void, where tourists now flock to enjoy their holidays. Nusa Dua has become one of the top luxury destinations in the world .
