TOP THINGS TO DO IN ALBANY WA

Journey to one of the most southern towns in Western Australia and experience some amazing Albany Tours.

Albany is a port city in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. It is 418 kilometres (260 mi) southeast of Perth and sits on the northern edge of Princess Royal Harbour (a part of King George Sound). It is the oldest colonial settlement in Western Australia, predating Perth and Fremantle by over two years, it was a semi-exclave of New South Wales for over four years until it was made part of the Swan River Colony.

For many years, it was the colony's only deep-water port, having a place of eminence on shipping services between Britain and its Australian colonies. However, when Fremantle Inner Harbour was opened in 1897, its importance as a port declined. Its focus turned to agriculture, timber and later, whaling.

Albany played a hugely significant and pivotal part in the history the First World War. This town was the last port of call for troopships, before heading north to fight in Europe. It would have been the last sight of Australia for many soldiers that fought in the infamous Gallipoli campaign.

ALBANY TOURISM & HISTORY

The Tours that we offer at BlueSun are a blend of marine tourism and history. With whaling being such a dominant part of the past, you can visit the Historic Whaling Station at Discovery Bay or even go on your own whaling adventure.
