BEST TIME TO VISIT BALI

Discover the best time to visit Bali, with month-by-month holiday advice, dry and wet seasons, crowds and prices. Plan your Bali holiday with BlueSun Travel.

BALI MONTHS, WEATHER & SEASONS

Find the right time for your Bali holiday, from sunny beach escapes to quieter resort stays and cultural adventures.

Bali is a wonderful year-round holiday destination, but choosing when to visit can make a considerable difference to your experience.

The island has two main seasons: a generally drier season from April to October and a wetter season from November to March. Both have advantages, depending on whether you're looking for beach weather, sightseeing, a relaxing resort holiday or better value.

For most travellers, May, June and September offer an excellent balance of favourable weather, manageable crowds and holiday value. July and August are also popular for their generally dry conditions, although accommodation can be more expensive during busy travel periods.

At BlueSun Travel, we recommend choosing your travel dates around the holiday you want, rather than simply booking during Bali's driest months.

BALI'S DRY SEASON AND WET SEASON

First things first....Bali’s weather runs on two speeds: dry and wet.

Dry Season:   May to Oct  – Bali at its Best

Wet Season:  Nov to Apr  – The Laidback, Lush Side of Bali

Bali has a tropical climate, with warm temperatures throughout the year. The main seasonal difference is rainfall rather than dramatic changes in temperature.

Bali Dry Season — April to October

The dry season is generally the most popular time to visit Bali, particularly for travellers planning beach holidays, sightseeing and outdoor activities.

Rainfall is usually lower, humidity can feel more comfortable, and there are often longer periods of sunshine.

Why visit during the dry season?

  • Generally favourable conditions for beaches, sightseeing and outdoor activities.

  • Good opportunities for exploring temples, villages and rice terraces.

  • Popular months for family holidays, weddings and honeymoons.

  • More predictable conditions for planning day trips, although rain is still possible.

July and August are particularly popular, so booking accommodation and flights well in advance is advisable.

Bali Wet Season — November to March

Bali's wet season brings higher humidity and more frequent tropical showers. However, this does not necessarily mean continuous rain throughout the day.

Some days remain sunny, while others experience heavy showers or longer periods of rainfall. Conditions can vary considerably across the island.

Why consider visiting during the wet season?

  • Quieter travel periods outside Christmas, New Year and major holidays.

  • Potentially attractive resort offers and accommodation rates.

  • Lush green landscapes, particularly around Ubud.

  • An excellent opportunity to enjoy spas, wellness retreats and relaxed resort holidays.

The wet season can still be enjoyable, particularly if you're comfortable with flexible sightseeing plans and occasional changes to outdoor activities.

BEST TIME TO VISIT BALI FOR DIFFERENT HOLIDAYS

The best time to visit Bali depends on what you want to do. A family planning a beach holiday may have different priorities from a couple looking for a romantic retreat or travellers wanting to explore Bali's cultural attractions.

Best Time for Beach Holidays

For beach holidays, May to September is generally an excellent period, with lower rainfall and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the coastline.

Popular destinations include Seminyak, Sanur, Jimbaran and Nusa Dua.

Remember that swimming and surfing conditions vary between beaches and seasons. A sunny day does not always mean calm seas.

Best Time for Family Holidays

Families often travel during Australian school holidays, particularly in April, July, September and December–January.

July and September can offer attractive weather conditions, while the Christmas holidays are generally wetter.

If you're travelling during school holidays, we recommend booking popular family resorts well in advance, particularly in Nusa Dua, Sanur and Legian.

Best Time for Couples and Honeymoons

May, June and September are excellent months to consider for a romantic Bali holiday, combining generally favourable weather with opportunities to avoid the busiest travel periods.

For couples, we particularly recommend Jimbaran for sunset dining, Ubud for private villas and wellness retreats, and Uluwatu for dramatic ocean views.

Best Time for Sightseeing and Cultural Experiences

Bali's temples, traditional villages, rice terraces and cultural attractions can be enjoyed throughout the year.

The generally drier months from May to September are particularly convenient for outdoor sightseeing, although the wet season brings lush landscapes and beautiful green scenery.

For a cultural holiday, consider combining Ubud with East Bali destinations such as Candidasa.

Best Time for Surfing and Water Activities

Surfing conditions depend on the coastline and seasonal winds. Bali's west-coast surf breaks are generally more popular during the dry season, while some east-coast breaks are favoured during the wetter months.

Snorkelling, diving and boat excursions depend on local sea conditions, visibility and operator advice. Check conditions before arranging water-based activities.

WHEN IS BALI CHEAPEST TO VISIT?

Bali holiday prices change throughout the year, particularly during Australian school holidays, major international travel periods and Christmas and New Year.

For travellers with flexible dates, February, March and November may offer opportunities for better accommodation value, although these months are generally wetter.

May, June and September can also offer a good balance between favourable weather and holiday costs.

However, the cheapest month is not always the best-value month. A lower resort price may be less attractive if poor weather prevents you from enjoying the activities you've planned.

Our advice is to compare the overall holiday experience, including flights, accommodation, transfers and activities, rather than focusing on hotel prices alone.

WHEN IS BALI MOST CROWDED?

Bali is particularly popular during July and August, Australian school holidays, and the Christmas and New Year period.

Busy periods can mean higher accommodation prices, more traffic and increased demand for popular restaurants, tours and attractions.

If you prefer a quieter holiday, consider travelling outside major holiday periods or choosing a destination away from Bali's busiest tourist centres.

Candidasa and selected parts of Ubud, for example, can offer a more peaceful atmosphere than central Seminyak or Canggu, although local conditions vary.

Here’s the lowdown on when Bali is best for your bank account:

🤑 Low Season (November to March – except Christmas/New Year) – Bali on a Budget

🤙 Shoulder Seasons (May–June & September–October) – Great Value Without the Rain

💸 Peak Season (July–August & Late December) – Expect to Pay More

DOES BALI'S WEATHER DEPEND ON WHERE YOU STAY?

Although Bali is a relatively small island, weather conditions can vary between its coastal areas, inland valleys and mountainous regions.

Southern coastal destinations such as Sanur, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua and Seminyak generally experience warm tropical conditions throughout the year.

Inland destinations such as Ubud can experience more variable rainfall, while higher mountain areas are often cooler.

East Bali also has its own local weather patterns, making destinations such as Candidasa attractive for travellers interested in combining coastal relaxation with cultural sightseeing.

BLUESUN INSIGHT - THE BEST MONTH ISN'T ALWAYS THE BEST HOLIDAY

❖ BlueSun Insight: The Best Month Isn't Always the Best Holiday

Don't assume Bali's driest months are automatically the best time for your holiday.

July and August usually offer excellent weather, but they're also popular travel months. Resorts can be busier, prices may be higher and popular attractions more crowded.

For many of our clients, May, June and September offer a better balance of weather, comfort and value.

However, the most important consideration is what you want from your holiday. A couple seeking a peaceful resort retreat may have very different priorities from a family travelling during school holidays.

Our advice: choose your travel dates around the experience you want, not simply the weather forecast.
